Melissa is a unique professional, bringing together her nursing expertise with over seven years of experience in obstetrics, gynecology, and neonatal care, and a robust background in small business management and leadership. Her previous roles encompassed project management, clinical informatics, grant writing, print and digital marketing, and accounting, providing her with a diverse skill set that she now applies to her nursing career.   

 

Melissa began her nursing career at the University Health System (UHS) in San Antonio, TX, a Level I Trauma Center, level IV NICU, level IV maternal designated, and Magnet facility. She became chair of the Labor and Delivery evidence-based practice committee, where she was responsible for creating, editing, and revising policies and procedures and implementing practice changes. Other achievements include precepting new nurses and maternal transport nurses, maternal transport educator, AWHONN Fetal Monitoring Instructor, Quality Assurance Processes Improvement Committee, maternal designation program co-chair, UHS Nursing Excellence Award, UHS women's health Leadership Award & Dewey decimal for most organized.

 

During her four years as a perinatal travel nurse, Melissa envisioned Peak RN, a platform dedicated to professional nursing development. PeakRN LLC offers perinatal nursing education and coaching to improve nurse wellBeing. Melissa's passion for education, wellBeing, nutrition, functional movement, and community is reflected in the services provided by Peak RN. Originally from San Antonio, TX, Melissa and her husband Ryan now split their time between there and the Eastern Sierra Nevadas.
